The Power of Juicing for Weight Loss vs. Drinking Fruit Juice

Is Fruit Juice really good for?

Often times fruit juice is perceived as healthy.  Well of course it is, it has the word “fruit” in it and fruit is healthy right?  Not quite.  Actually fruit juice is loaded with sugar, sometimes just as much sugar or more than the drinks we label “sugary drinks.”

The labels on the fruit drinks can be deceiving because the manufacturers want their product to sell.  I’m not saying that they lie about their drinks but they market them in a way that makes them sound healthy.  Let me explain.

So when you go to the store and go to the juice isle you see all different kinds of juice and a lot of them say 100% juice, not from concentrate, 100% daily value of vitamin C, or something close.  No wonder they are so deceiving, those kinds of works could trick anyone.  It is true that these juices do have vitamins, antioxidants and good stuff, however the overloading of sugar outweighs the goods.

I almost forgot fruit juice has a lot of calories and they can add up quick when drinking juice.

So Why is Whole Fruit Healthier and is Juicing Good for You?

In a lot of fruits, the peeling contains most of the vitamins and antioxidants and all the other good stuff that makes the fruit healthy.  In fruit juice none of peeling is ever used and in fact some manufacturers may let the juice sit for a long time and add flavoring to it because the juice lost most of it.

So what is the difference between store bought fruit juice and making your own juice at home.  When you make your own juice at home most all of the vitamins, nutrients, minerals, and antioxidants are kept in the juice.  There is also a plant chemicals called phytonutrients that is retained whenever you juice at home.

Fruit is not the only thing you can juice, vegetables can also be juiced.  If your not much of a vegetable person you should definitely try juicing them.  For some reason they taste much better when they’re blended up and mixed with fruit or other vegetables.

The nutrients in self made juice has healing properties for cardiovascular health, cancer prevention, and several inflammatory diseases.  Two compounds called flavonoids and anthocynanins protect against oxidative cellular damage, which comes from everyday wear and tear and is sped up by pollution and chemicals.

Juicing for Weight Loss and The Best Blenders

I believe blending is the best way to juice your fruit and vegetables, but not all blenders are the same and let me explain why. A blender made for juicing with more power is going to be able to handle harder fruits and vegetables and bust through the peeling.  They do this so well you won’t even know there was peeling or skin to begin with.  Using a juicer takes the fiber out of the fruit and separates the peeling.  You want the peeling in your juice for reasons I explained above and because of the fiber.  The fiber is what is going to fill you up and give you so many great benefits.   With blending you get all the fiber.

The Vitamix 5200 is one of the most highly sought after blenders on the market.  It is going to be everything you would need in a blender and can be used for much more than making juice smoothies.

The Ninja Professional Blender is also another good blender that puts out a lot of power, but not quite what your going to get from the Vitamix.  This blender also has many different settings for different things.

The Magic Bullet is more of a starter blender and does not have quite the output of the other two, but is still made for blending wonderful concoctions.  If you want something smaller with just one option for blending, this is the one for you.

Above I mentioned several benefits you can get from juicing, but how does it help you lose weight.  So when you make juice you can add several servings of fruits or vegetables in at a time.  You can replace meals with juice that contains only fruits and vegetables.  Just replacing one meal a day big a nice glass of juice will result in massive health benefits and losing weight quick.  The fresh fruits and vegetables can clean you body out and rid it of toxins.

Juice cleanse and weight loss can go hand and hand, but I would not recommend doing a several day juice cleanse.  Just drinking fresh juice once a day I believe is plenty enough to see some weight loss results, cleanse your body, and give it the detox it needs.

You want to juice vegetables along with fruit, not just juice fruit.  You can never get enough vegetables, they are the healthiest thing on earth.  Fruit, does contain natural sugar so you don’t want to go overboard on the fruit that’s why I say stick to only one glass if it contains mostly or all fruit.

There are these big, fancy juicers out there that do all this work but they take up space, leave out benefits, and are a very big pain to clean.  With a blender cleaning in not hard at all you just clean one thing.

You know you learn something new everyday! I did not really think much about juicing, because I didn’t think it was really much different than eating fruit or drinking juice. I did not know that most of the vitamins and antioxidants and other good stuff is all in the peeling! I have a juicer and I mainly, I know, use it for protein smoothies where I do add some frozen fruit. I am just curious if you will be providing good juicer recipes?

    • Yes the juice you buy from the store is loaded with sugar and most of the nutrients and vitamins is stripped in the process of making the juice. Juicing can be a powerful way to add extra fruit and veggies into your diet. Since you would like some recipes I sure will make a post with recipes for juicing here in the next day or two.

I love this article. Thanks so much for sharing it. I have to admit that I too get deceived by the marketing hype. Marketers use the right words to make us believe that their products are healthy when in fact they are not. Now, an off-the-shelf fruit juice is certainly better than soda or artificial beverages but it cannot compete with naturally blended fruit and vegetable juices made at home. You are so correct about keeping the peeling of the fruit. That’s where all of the goodness is included.

One thing I would add is that if you are going to be juicing on a daily basis make sure that you chose organic options. Many fruits and vegetables found at the grocers contain pesticides which, over time, can have negative effects on the human body.

    Again, thanks for sharing.

    • Yes these marketers are professionals of delusion and its not even that they lie usually the just list it has some vitamin or everyone sees it and says well i Need that vitamin. However they don’t mention its loaded with sugar and has none of the antioxidants you get from real fruit and vegetables. Yes I would very highly recommend getting organic fruit and vegetables. If you can afford it I would get organic everything the pesticides are terrible for you. They have to wear special masks to put them on the food and then we eat it. thank you for your input you are exactly right.
